Sit and Wait Sessions - THESE HAVE BEEN TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE
The introduction of the Sit and Wait surgeries at the practice are proving to be very successful and we have received a positive response from our patients.
However, some of our patients may not know of this service or the criteria that these sessions have, so we have listed below the following:
We hope this information helps you decide which of our services are the most appropriate.
These are available to anyone. Please book in with a practice nurse. She will do a number of basic checks and discuss your health with you. These are recommended every 3 years.
These are generally undertaken by one of the nurses. Ladies between the ages of 25 and 50 will routinely be called by the health authority every 3 years. Ladies between 50 and 64 will be called every 5 years.
NHS Screen Programmes - Information for Trans people
Advice is provided by all the doctors; and the nurses in the treatment room. We offer a full range of contraceptives including the 3 year contraceptive implant. Alternatively the following services are available:
Family Planning Clinic at Coalville Community Hospital - 0116 285 1212 (to book an appointment) By Appointment Tuesday 18:15 until 20:00 Drop - in Thursday 18:15 until 20:00
Childhood immunisations are carried out on Tuesday afternoons, between 14:00 and 16:00 - the nurses are unavailable at that time for other appointments. The health authority will send you reminders when your child's immunisations are due.
Vaccinations help to protect us throughout our life.
Public Health feel that it is important to continue to vaccinate children during the pandemic. This will help with stopping the spread of infectious diseases. If the child, parent or other member of the family has a new cough, fever or change in taste or smell please DO NOT attend the surgery and follow the NHS guidance regarding self isolation. If everyone is well, please can we minimise who attends with the child, ideally just one parent and no other children. We would also encourage you not to bring prams, pushchairs or car seats into the practice.
The Long Term Conditions clinic usually takes place each afternoon, between 13:30 and 16:00. There are also appointments available in our Wednesday late evening clinic. If you have a long term condition (asthma or other respiratory condition, diabetes, heart disease or have had a stroke or mini-stroke) you will be invited once a year for an annual check with a specialist nurse. The check takes approximately 20 minutes.
A blood test is required 2 weeks before the clinic appointment for patients with heart disease, diabetes or having had a stroke. You will be advised of this when you ring to book for the clinic. Please note you will be given the results of this blood test in the clinic, there is no need to telephone for them.
Please be aware that we are required by the government to call you three times each year if you do not respond to our letters. If you do not want to be called or you have had a letter and don't want to come to clinic you can download a disclaimer form from here. Fill it in and return it to us and we won't call you again for a year.
We are offering patients aged between 40 and 74 years a cardiovascular health check as long as you haven’t already *got high blood pressure, Diabetes, Kidney Disease, Heart Disease, had a Stroke or are taking a Statin medication. This involves coming in for a cholesterol test followed a week or so later by a 20 minute appointment with one of our Health Care Assistants to take your weight, height, blood pressure and to answer some lifestyle questions. They will then assess your risk of a developing Heart Disease, Type 2 Diabetes, Kidney Disease or having a Stroke. If you are at a high risk they will advise you to see the GP who can discuss lifestyle changes and medication options with you. If you would like one of these please ring reception and ask for an NHS Health Check.
*this list in not extensive - please contact reception to see if you qualify.
This is usually provided by one of the midwives. Their clinic times are as follows:
If you are unable to see the midwife then the doctors will undertake your checks for you.
These are run by the Health Visitors. You will be advised of the dates and times by the midwife at your ante natal appointments.
You will be invited for a check with the doctor six weeks after the birth of your baby. Also your baby will have an 8 week check with the doctor.
The Health Visitor will offer you these appointments and so please check with them the frequency of these.
